From Genk via Chelsea to Wolfsburg

De Bruyne won the Belgian title with KRC Genk and left for Chelsea in 2012. He got few chances there, but on loan at Werder Bremen and then at VfL Wolfsburg he developed into a top player. In the 2014/15 season he provided 21 Bundesliga assists, won the DFB-Pokal with Wolfsburg and was named Germany's player of the year.

Manchester City: Guardiola, Agüero and #17

In 2015 Manchester City brought him to England. A year later Pep Guardiola arrived, and De Bruyne became the heart of his side. In 2017/18 City won the title with a record 100 points, with Sergio Agüero, David Silva, Raheem Sterling, Fernandinho and captain Vincent Kompany. In 2019/20 De Bruyne equalled Thierry Henry's record with twenty assists. Until 2019 City played in Nike, then in Puma, and always with Etihad on the chest.

Later he played alongside Erling Haaland, Rodri, Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva and İlkay Gündoğan. In 2023 City won the treble, with the Champions League final in Istanbul against Inter. In total, De Bruyne won six league titles with City. In 2025 he said goodbye to the Etihad Stadium as one of the best players in the club's history. Belgium: the golden generation

For Belgium, De Bruyne wore #7 in a generation full of stars: Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku, Thibaut Courtois, Vincent Kompany, Jan Vertonghen and Axel Witsel. At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Belgium beat Brazil 2-1 in the quarter-final, with a superb De Bruyne goal, and finished third, the country's best ever result.
