La Liga shirts

Retro La Liga shirts: from the Dream Team to the Galácticos

In Spain, football is all about technique, rivalry and big names. From Cruijff and Maradona to Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo: the greatest players in the world have played in La Liga. In this collection you'll find original retro La Liga shirts and vintage Spanish football shirts from clubs including Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, Valencia and Sevilla.

Cruijff's Dream Team

In the late 1980s Johan Cruijff returned to FC Barcelona, this time as manager. He built the 'Dream Team', with Pep Guardiola, Michael Laudrup, Hristo Stoichkov, Romário and Ronald Koeman. In 1992 Barça won their first European Cup at Wembley, thanks to a Koeman free kick in extra time against Sampdoria. Four league titles in a row followed. For Dutch fans Barça is extra special: later, under Louis van Gaal, the squad included Patrick Kluivert, Phillip Cocu, Marc Overmars and Frank and Ronald de Boer, and Frank Rijkaard won the Champions League there as manager in 2006.

Real Madrid: from the Quinta del Buitre to the Galácticos

In the 1980s, Real Madrid dominated with the 'Quinta del Buitre' around Emilio Butragueño. In 1998 Real won the Champions League again after 32 years, thanks to a Predrag Mijatović goal in the final against Juventus. Then came the Galácticos: Luís Figo, Zinédine Zidane, Ronaldo and David Beckham, alongside Raúl and Roberto Carlos, in the Adidas shirt with Siemens on the chest. Zidane's volley in the 2002 Champions League final in Glasgow is one of the finest goals ever scored.

Messi versus Ronaldo

Between 2009 and 2018, the two best players of their generation played in the same league. Lionel Messi won the 2009 sextuple and the 2011 Champions League with Barcelona under Guardiola, alongside Xavi, Iniesta and Puyol. Cristiano Ronaldo became Real Madrid's all-time top scorer and won the Champions League there four times. Every Clásico from those years felt like a World Cup final. Valencia, Deportivo and Atlético

La Liga is more than Barça and Real. Valencia under Héctor Cúper, with Gaizka Mendieta as their big star, reached two Champions League finals in a row (2000 and 2001). Valencia then won the title under Rafael Benítez in 2002 and 2004, with Pablo Aimar, Roberto Ayala, David Albelda and goalkeeper Santiago Cañizares. Deportivo La Coruña became champions in 2000, and Roy Makaay won the European Golden Shoe there in 2003. Atlético Madrid won the double in 1996 with Diego Simeone as a player, and in 2014 Atlético won the title with Simeone as manager, with Diego Costa, Koke and Thibaut Courtois.

Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao

Sevilla are the kings of the Europa League: the club have won the competition (including the UEFA Cup) more often than anyone, starting in 2006 and 2007 under Juande Ramos. And Athletic Bilbao are unique in world football: the club only field players from the Basque Country, and have still been champions of Spain eight times.
