Valencia shirts

Retro Valencia shirts: from Kempes to Villa

Valencia CF is one of Spain's big clubs, with the steep Mestalla among the most atmospheric stadiums in Europe. The white shirt with black details and the bat in the club crest are instantly recognisable. In this collection you will find original retro Valencia shirts and vintage Valencia shirts, from the 1990s to recent seasons.

Mario Kempes and the Cup Winners' Cup

In the late 1970s Mario Kempes was Valencia's big star. In 1978 he was top scorer and world champion with Argentina while playing in Valencia's white shirt. In 1980 the club won the Cup Winners' Cup, on penalties against Arsenal in Brussels, with Kempes and the German Rainer Bonhof in the side.

Cรบper, Mendieta and two Champions League finals

Around the turn of the millennium Valencia wrote European history under Argentine coach Hรฉctor Cรบper. In 2000 and 2001 the club reached the Champions League final two years in a row. Gaizka Mendieta was the leader in midfield, surrounded by Claudio Lรณpez, Kily Gonzรกlez, Roberto Ayala, Mauricio Pellegrino and goalkeeper Santiago Caรฑizares. In 2000 the final in Paris was lost to Real Madrid, and in 2001 in Milan on penalties to Bayern Munich. A vintage Valencia shirt from these years is highly sought after by collectors.

Benรญtez: two titles and the UEFA Cup

Under Rafael Benรญtez, Valencia became champions of Spain in 2002 for the first time in 31 years, and again in 2004. That same year the club also won the UEFA Cup, beating Olympique Marseille 2-0 in Gothenburg. Pablo Aimar, David Albelda, Rubรฉn Baraja, Vicente, Mista, Roberto Ayala and Santiago Caรฑizares formed one of the strongest sides in Europe.

Villa, Silva, Mata and Koeman

Next came a generation that would later win the World Cup with Spain. David Villa, David Silva and Juan Mata played together at the Mestalla. In 2008 Valencia won the Copa del Rey, beating Getafe 3-1, with Ronald Koeman as coach. In 2019, the club's centenary year, another cup followed under Marcelino, with a 2-1 win over Barcelona in the final.
